Best of all, we’re guaranteed ZERO repeats! The only problem is that 30 tracks can only mean ridiculously short edits, but with any luck EMI will release a download edition with full-length tracks.

EMI’s long-running R&B compilation series returns in 2010 with a dance twist. Really, they might as well have dropped the R&B/Hip-Hop part of the title, because the track list is more reflective of Top 40 hits. The tracks are also somewhat outdated. Why pick “Poker Face” instead of something from the Fame Monster EP? There are way too many annoying “singers” on this album, too.

Bentley Jones’s second album will finally see the light of day later this year. The title seems to be a reference to his split with former label, EMI Music Japan. Methinks he might be a tad bitter about his treatment by the label. Or perhaps he’s still upset by Sega releasing his songs on compilations w/o compensation. One thing is obvious: something shady went down in Tokyo. Take a listen to the seemingly autobiographical “Down in Tokyo”:
Fantastic track, if I say so myself. It’s a fine blend of modern house sounds with a tinge of Japanese instrumentation. Here’s hoping the rest of the album is just as good.

It’s still uncertain if they’ll give it a proper single release, but I hope they do. “Life Is a Journey” was a great track, and Almighty made it all the better. I’d love to see some remixes of this track as well.

Captain Jack is back!!! This collection of remixes and new tracks was originally set for release this past October, but apparently it’s been delayed until the new year. It’s surprisingly mostly new material, so if you’re only interested in the new remixes of classic CJ tracks, then you’re better off getting the Hit Remixes 2010 single. I believe this is the first time that the Cheeky Trax remix of “Dream A Dream” has been commercially available, however.
“People Like to Party” was a great track, so I’m actually really looking forward to the new songs. “How does it feel” looks like it’ll be the requisite eurodance ballad, though.
Hit Remixes 2010 (Single)

Now this is more like it! Ace da Brain starts off this collection of 2010 remixes with a trance remix of Captain Jack’s eponymous song. It’s a fantastic remix that gives the song a fresh feel yet still retains CJ’s distinct military style. “Drill Instructor” is similarly updated with a trance sound, and thankfully retains all of the lyrics. “Soldier Soldier,” is a noticeably darker take on the song, with a strong emphasis on bass. For purists, I *think* that they kept the old vocals. If not, then Bruce does one heckuva Franky Gee impersonation. All in all, it’s a great collection of remixes, and if the upcoming “Back to the Dancefloor” is anywhere near as good as this then we’re in for quite a treat.
Gossip Party! “The Best of Celeb Hits” R&B n’ House Mix

A hot new collection of house-flavored R&B covers from Manhattan Records Japan. The new productions are surprisingly well done, I’m particularly impressed by how good the vocalists are. Some of them come extremely close to the original performers, while others even outshine the originals (although, really, it’s not hard to sing better than Rihanna or Ke$ha). Mixed by DJ D. Loc.
The CD is a non-stop mix, but full versions of all 30 tracks are available on iTunes Japan for only 1500 yen.
