Toho Eurobeat Vol. 5 ~ Imperishable Night
Release Date: 5/27/12
Price: 1400 yen

Doujin release featuring eurobeat covers of popular touhou songs. Odd that they’re releasing it in May, as in the past they’ve waited for the August Comiket to release TEB CDs. You can visit the official website for a crossfade demo.

For fans outside of Japan, White Canvas is willing to ship overseas, and they’ll be carrying TEB 5: http://www.w-canvas.com/products/detail.php?product_id=35451 For more information on their service, go to their info page: http://www.w-canvas.com/user_data/information.php. In addition to the price of the CD and overseas shipping, there’s also a 1,000 yen commission per order, so it might be a good idea to pick up TEB 1-4 and Best 2011 at the same time. Note that I haven’t used White Canvas, but I’ve read online that speak decent English, so it might be your best shot at acquiring these CDs.

CDJapan also have a new shopping service so you might be able to ask them to buy it for you.

Utattemita Anison Speed
Release Date: 7/4/12
Price: 1905 yen

Okay, now I’m convinced that Akiba Koubou have to rearrange these tracks. “Tiger & Dragon,” for example, was originally 136 BPM on Geki Atsu! Drama Euro Kizuna Hen, so there’s no way they can just transplant it as is. Pleeaaaasseee don’t disappoint me again, AKBK.

Utattemita Anison Speed
Release Date: 7/4/12
Price: 1905 yen

Early list is out, and so far it’s all songs that have previously been covered by Akiba Koubou. If this ends up the same as J-Mach!! I’ll be extremely disappointed. I’m convinced that they’ll have to actually rearrange these, though, because many of the songs already appeared on the original Utattemita Anison, and there’s no way they’d just reuse the same arrangements again, right? Right?!

J-Mach!! -Hi-Speed Dance Mix-
Release Date: 5/23/12
Price: 1905 yen

Wow, I can’t believe how disappointing this is. My greatest fear was that Akiba Koubou would go the cheap route and just increase the tempo of the songs and call it a day. However, what they did was somehow much worse: nothing. That’s right, they didn’t bother to rearrange the songs at all, much less change the tempos. Pretty much all of the tracks are at or near their original BPMs, with most of the album ranging from 160-165 BPM. The final 7 tracks range from around 170-190, but those are all at their original BPMs as well. I would have been more forgiving if it had been marketed as a eurobeat album, but it just doesn’t work as a Speed album because it doesn’t feel very fast as a whole. The mixing isn’t particularly memorable, either, with some transitions that are downright jarring. The fact that it’s 100% repeats just makes things that much worse. That said, Team KY’s “Run ‘n’ Gun” is amazing. I wish I had just found a way to buy the single instead of this. :/

In addition to the CD version, J-Mach!! is also available digitally on iTunes Japan. Keep in mind that the digital version is also mixed.

Utattemita Anison Speed
Release Date: 7/4/12
Price: 1905 yen

The other new Utattemita release will feature high-speed versions of J-Pop classics. Unfortunately, AKBK’s similarly themed J-Mach!! -Hi-Speed Dance Mix- is almost certain to become a source of tracks for this release. Please prove me wrong, EMI.

Utattemita Anison Speed
Release Date: 7/4/12
Price: 1905 yen

Dancemania Speed…lives? This July will see the continuation of the Utattemita series with two new Akiba Koubou-produced CDs. This one will feature high-speed versions of Anison themes. You may remember that AKBK have their own Speed release coming up, J-Mach!! -Hi-Speed Dance Mix-, but that release has very few anime songs so I’m hopeful that EMI will commission lots of new remixes for this.

The first two Utattamita releases from EMI weren’t branded as Dancemania releases, but I’m hoping they retroactively add them and these two new releases to the series. It’d just be nice to say there’s a new Dancemania Speed release after 5 years.

Super Ita G Beat
Release Date: 4/28/12
Price: 1905 yen

Wow, Akiba Koubou really went all-out for the Nico Nico Cho Kaigi. This special collaboration with Ita G brings together only the most overexposed AKBK songs of the past 4 years. To be fair, there’s at least one new song: a resing of “Zankoku na Tenshi no These” by D-Angels.

I can’t help but wax nostalgic over the days when Quake used to do weird tie-ups like this.

Yume no Tobira (Single)
Artist: Allover
Release Date: 4/28/12
Price: 952 yen

Limited-edition debut single from Akiba Koubou’s Idol project, Allover. This was available at Nico Nico Cho Kaigi, and will also be sold at Allover live events. The song isn’t quite eurobeat, but don’t be shocked to see a Eurobeat version show up on a future AKBK compilation.

Akiba Koubou presents Utatte Mita Collection Tadanon, Okame, Takuma
Artist: Tadanon, Okame, Takuma
Release Date: 4/28/12
Price: 952 yen

Sixth wave of Utatte Mita singles from Akiba Koubou. This one features the popular odottemita trio composed of Tadanon, Okame, and Takuma. Surprisingly, it’s mostly new material, with “Tamashii no Refrain” being the only repeat/resing. The last 2 tracks are from AKBK newcomer, Beat Charger.

The single was available at Akiba Koubou’s booth at Nico Nico Cho Kaigi, a convention that was held April 28-29. Presumably it’ll also be available on tour stops during the Spring Akiba Koubou Festa.

Remix Best
Artist: Sex Machineguns
Release Date: 4/18/12
Price: 2667 yen

A new Sex Machineguns remix album produced by Akiba Koubou. Sex Machineguns are a speed metal band who have been active since 1983. This special remix CD will feature remixes of 12 of their biggest hits, plus a special 20-minute megamix by DJ Mocchi. I’m not entirely certain who the rearrangers are, but I definitely hear valle blanco, DJ Command, and Rayto influences.

The album is also available digitally on iTunes Japan.

Nagashima*Jienotsu*Yuichirou -Anison DJ de Ottsu Otsu!-
Release Date: 4/25/12
Price: 1905 yen

Compilation album featuring eurobeat covers of anime themes. Produced by Kickboxer, Yuichirou Nagashima, who is also known for his cosplay. In addition to the usual AKBK repeats, the CD will include his official theme song, which was released as a single a few years ago and is sung by Halko Momoi. Yuichirou himself will be a doing a cover of “Gekitei”. There are also at least two new songs planned, so the album won’t be a complete waste.
