CD+DVD release from Avex. egg is a Japanese magazine focusing on overly tanned girls and their respective fashions. Mostly eurobeat, but some trance managed to sneak its way in. Notable for having Tsukasa’s latest single, “Shuuketsu no Sono e,” as well as Tsukasa’s awesome cover of “Ginga Tetsudou 999.” Also includes a DVD with ParaPara routines.
Disco 80’s presents Around 40

Mostly repeats on this latest attempt to cash in on the Around 40 fad.
Dragon Quest Best Dance Mix ~Extended Mix~

Released to capitalize on the debut of Dragon Quest IX. This digital only release features extended versions of the songs from Dragon Quest Best Dance Mix, with songs ranging from approx. 6-9 minutes. The total length of all the extended tracks is about an hour and nine minutes, which means they would’ve fit onto the CD in the first place.

Disco 80’s presents Around 40

Hooray for repackaged hits! This looks suspiciously similar to Disco 80’s ~R30 Euro Special~ or any of Avex’s Disco 80’s releases. How’d we go from Around 30 all the way to Around 40 in the span of two years?
By far the most interesting thing about this release is that Avex will be licensing Almighty in the form of Abbacadabra.

I’d been wondering why N.O.-SYO had seemingly disappeared from Exit Trance the last few months, and it turns out the reason is he’s been busy working on this album. Avex haven’t been doing much with trance lately, so it was a surprise to see a brand new digital single from Overhead Champion.

Starts off electro-ish, but transitions into classic OHC, which is very much a good thing. Hopefully this is a sign that Avex haven’t abandoned the SBT series yet. The single is now available for purchase on iTunes and various other Japanese download services. Keep in mind that Avex still haven’t made the switch to iTunes Plus, so if you grab the single from there you’ll get saddled with DRM and likely a low bit rate as well.

The first Dragon Quest Remix album approved by Koichi Sugiyama comes out next week. I initially said this would be all trance, but it appears that techno and electro arrangements will also be appearing.

Dragon Quest Best Dance Mix

Well, this is a surprise. VGM dance remix albums have been a dime a dozen lately, with Space Invaders 2008, Konami Addiction, and Final Fantasy Remix all coming out within the past year. Up until now most of these remixes have been of the electro or techno variety. Avex are about to change that, however, with the release of Dragon Quest Best Dance Mix. Leave it to Avex to finally release what I’ve been dreaming of for so long: VGM trance.
Dragon Quest Best Dance Mix will be produced solely by the trance artist known as DragonFly. According to his profile, he first got a synthesizer when he was 18 years old. At the age of 21 he released an album on iTunes featuring eight original songs as well as two Dragon Quest remixes. You can listen to one of those DQ remixes, “Overture,” on his MySpace.
“Overture” sounds okay but I think his other tracks are more promising. “Yo! Kabuki” in particular is my favorite of the bunch. I’ve long been a fan of wafuu fusion (wafusion, if you will) styles, so I hope he also implements traditional Japanese instruments in his new DQ remixes.
Super Best Trance 10 ~The Best~

Well, it’s not as bad as it could have been. At least Avex resisted the urge to license “Caramelldansen.” 😛
Obviously there are a ton of repeats, but it is surprising that they left off some of the more popular songs like “Heavenly Star” and “Are U Wake Up?” Instead, they’ve licensed quite a few tracks from EMI, FARM, and Quake.
There are at least 4 new J-trance tracks/remixes, the most exciting of which is a new Delaction remix of John Robinson’s “Can U Feel It?” Also noteworthy is a new collaboration between DJ Joker and Heaven’s Wire called “G-Kill.”
Dance X’mas

No separate X’mas Trance or Super Euro X’mas releases this year. Instead Avex will be releasing Dance X’mas, which features the best of trance, euro, and house Christmas songs.

Super Best Trance 10 ~The Best~

To recap, SBT -The Best- came out after the first four releases (SBT I-IV). SBT Request Countdown came out after another three releases (SBT V-VII). And now SBT 10 ~The Best~ will be coming out after only two releases (SBT 08 and 09). At this rate SBT 11 will be another best-of release!
Dance X’mas

Instead of another Super Euro X’mas or X’mas Trance, Avex have decided to combine the two into a compilation known as Dance X’mas. It’s mostly repeats, though there will be a few newer tracks present. One is “Wait for You,” which I believe is a eurobeat cover of the Elliot Yamin song. What it has to do with Christmas, I have no idea. Tsukasa’s new single, “Merry Christmas,” will also appear as a bonus track.
