It’s been 5 years since his last release, but Overhead Champion is back with new trance tracks! When this was announced I was afraid it was going to be EDM, but it’s pure, unabashed J-Trance.

The EP appears to be available worldwide on a variety of services, including Amazon MP3, iTunes, Beatport, and others.

2014 is the 10-year anniversary of the J-Trance boom, when series like Mega Trance, Trance Paradise, and Super Best Trance all started (though the original Trance Rave actually came out in 2001). Keep an eye out later this year when I’ll do posts on older J-Trance releases that predated the start of this blog.

Best Hit Disco – Playback 90s

Well, now I’m glad that I procrastinated on buying a Recochoku card for Dance! Dance!! Dance!!! Star Music just released a new iTunes album featuring full versions of the 90s covers that Threemason and Delaction did for the Dance! Dance!! Dance!!! album. It’s 20 songs total for 700 yen, and includes covers of Dancemania favorites like “Dub-I-Dub,” “Hero,” “Butterfly,” and other 90s dance hits. I’m still holding out hope for full versions from Meganimation.

Speaking of Star Music, it seems that they’ve been running a monthly trance party at T2 Shibuya recently called “Ultra Trance.” Recent guest DJs have included J-Trance legends like DJ Kaya, Remo-con, and DJ U*Hey? I’m hopeful that they’ll release an Ultra Trance digital compilation in the future.
