Vibes Zenkai Natsu Mix
Release Date: 7/16/14
Price: 1850 yen
Summer compilation from Universal Japan. Mostly the same top 40 hits they’ve been peddling from the last few years, though they somehow managed to have “Samba de Janeiro” on twice. Also, nothing says summer anthem like the theme song from Frozen.
What’s Up Dance The Greatest Hits III
Release Date: 6/11/14
Price: 3000 yen
The latest release in the What’s Up! Dance series. Disc 1 features mainstream dancepop hits, while Disc 2 is basically EDM Anthem III. The preview video implies that these are non-stop mixes, but I can’t say for sure yet as most of the track lengths look like the full versions.
EDM Anthem III
Release Date: 3/26/14 ? 4/30/14
Price: 2200 yen
Third release in the EDM Anthem series.
What’s Up Dance The Greatest Hits III
Release Date: 6/11/14
Price: 3000 yen
The latest release in the What’s Up! Dance series. Disc 1 features mainstream dancepop hits, while Disc 2 focuses more on EDM. There are scheduled to be 40 tracks in all.
I Love Party 2 -Welcome 2 da Dance Floor-
Release Date: 4/23/14
Price: 1850 yen
This is being billed as the second release in Universal’s I Love Party series, so I guess they’re forgetting that I Love Party Pop exists. The announced artists are the usual Universal fare, meaning Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Chris Brown, and Nicki Minaj. And I think Universal has finally taken the repeat king crown; “Beauty and a Beat” has somehow appeared on all 3 albums in the series.
What’s Up! 10th Anniversary Best ~ Dance Side / Hip Hop, R&B Side
Release Date: 3/12/14
Price: 1200 yen
Although the CD version came out in December, the digital accompaniments only came out in March. Instead of packaging all of the songs into one release, they’ve instead split it into separate dance and hip-hop/R&B releases for 1,200 yen each.
EDM Anthem III
Release Date: 3/26/14 ? 4/30/14
Price: 2200 yen
Track list has finally been revealed for the third release in Universal’s EDM Anthem series. Coincidentally, it also features “Greyhound,” just like the third release in EMI’s EDM series. And just like Electronic Dance Madness, it has a random remixed Katy Perry song. Also interesting is a song from what appears to be a Japanese artist, Chronic Crank.
EDM Anthem III
Release Date: 3/26/14 ? 4/30/14
Price: 2190 yen
Bad news for EDM fans. It looks like this album has been delayed a month to April 30. Still no track list, either.
Pre-order at CDJapan.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this had numerous repeats from the first two entries in the series.
EDM Anthem III
Release Date: 3/26/14
Price: 2190 yen
It looks like Universal is keeping this as a biannual series. I wonder if “The Fox” will end up on this?
J-Pop the World ~J-Pop International Cover Collection~
Release Date: 1/15/14
Price: 2200 yen
A new J-Pop cover compilation from EMI. I was hoping we’d get new covers by Saifam, but instead it’s old covers by EMI and Universal artists.
I Love Party Pop
Release Date: 11/27/13 ? 12/25/13
Price: 1900 yen
The second release in Universal’s I Love Party series. Uggh, Universal are the absolute worst when it comes to compilations. Not only are a lot of the songs quite old now, but a few of them already appeared on the first CD!
