Trance Rave Best XVII

Well, I called it. “Caramelldansen” infects yet another trance compilation. It was kinda funny at first, but now it’s just getting ridiculous. At least they refrained from using “Sousei no Aquarion,” though that’s probably because it already appeared on Trance Rave Best XVI.
Anyway, TRB 17 comprises mostly Quake Trance Best tracks of the last year, though in some cases they reached as far back as 2005. Also included are some tracks from Quake’s various Exit Trance series.
Koakuma Magic

Koakuma Magic is essentially Euro Panic! Best. There are tons of repeats from Victor’s old Euro Panic! series, though there are also a handful of new J-Euro tracks. Oh, and “Sousei no Aquarion” makes it 57th appearance on a dance compilation this year.
The CD+DVD version includes a DVD of Para Para routines.
Trance Rave Best XVII
Release Date: 12/24/08
Price: 1900 yen
Victor Japan’s semiannual trance compilation series continues with this unprecedented 17th release. Details are sparse at the moment, but expect the most popular tracks of 2008 to appear. If you haven’t been paying attention, that most likely means “Caramelldansen” will be included.

Koakuma Magic

Okay, so technically I blogged about this before. However, a lot of the details about this release have changed. The release has been delayed from its original intended release date and is now titled Koakuma Magic instead of Koakuma Princess. This was originally going to be available only as a CD+DVD set, but it looks like Victor will be releasing a CD only version about a month after the CD+DVD set.
Scheduled to appear are Ichidai, Laurie, Little Barby, Mister Max, Love Boom, Blue Roses, Mark Farina. In other words, a plethora of eurobeat repeats. It’s really quite amazing that Victor are still reusing Euro Panic! material after 7 years.

Oh, joy, both “Caramelldansen” and “Sousei no Aquarion.” We certainly haven’t heard those two enough this year! And as a bonus, there’s also “One Million Miles,’ which has only shown up a few dozen times on other compilations.
If all those Quake repeats weren’t enough, there are also quite a few repeats from Victor’s old eurobeat series, Euro Panic!, which was last seen in 2001. I really can’t believe that Victor are so cheap that they can’t bother licensing newer eurobeat from Saifam.
Ah well, there are at least a few new songs on this, including Kei’s cover of “Tamashii no Refrain.”

Before there was Hime Trance, there was Buchiage Trance. Victor’s Trance Rave sub-series was the best-selling trance series in Japan until Hime Trance came along. It’s been struggling in recent years, and by the time the seventh release came out they rebranded the series as Buchiage Parance with a new emphasis on eurobeat and Para Para (hence the title), though trance, techno, and psychedelic continued to be featured. The upcoming eighth release continues the Para Para theme and will once again come with a DVD. No early list yet, but expect Kei to appear.
